SCREEN PRINTING

Silkscreen printing or sometimes just referred to as screen printing is the traditional way to print on t-shirts and other garments.
It is the best solution for the long run and produces a vibrant, longest-lasting, and cost-effective option for imprinted garments

  • Works on a wide variety of fabrics and materials

  • Durable and excellent color reproduction

  • Better opacity and better bonding compared to other methods

  • Screen Printing is most cost-effective when over 100 garments

Exception: one-color jobs are very cost-effective from 24 units

At Unity Imaging, we have a full range of printing options - including Silkscreen, Discharge, DTG Direct to Garment, Heat Transfer, and a huge range of Patches to meet your most challenging needs.
Our goal here is to give you honest and expert advice for the best method and approach to your project. Here are some of the advantages and limitations of screen printing.

advantages

SILKSCREEN PRINTING PRODUCES A GREAT FINISH WITH VIBRANT COLORS!

We custom mix the ink to produce accurate PMS color reproduction and special colors such as metallics, glow in the dark and puff prints that other printing methods can’t do.

SCREEN PRINTING IS LONG-LASTING AND DURABLE.

You don’t want your brand to dull, fade or flake away as time goes by with wash and wear. The composition and thickness of the inks used in silkscreen printing are more durable and can withstand more stress.  Result - your designs will look fantastic from day one and years later with screen printing.

SCREEN PRINTING IS BY FAR THE MOST VERSATILE.

You can print a one-color design or photo color with a simulated process. Screen printing will work on all fabrics and can also be used on a wide variety of surfaces.

The printing process is relatively quick and easy with low labor costs which benefit our customers. That’s why we’re able to offer such attractive volume discounts on large orders. We understand that whether you are a business owner, part of a non-profit, charity organization, work with the city, state, or the federal government, or simply need shirts for a party - you are looking for the greatest value within your budget.

limitations

GIVEN ALL THE ADVANTAGES AND QUALITY PRODUCTS, SCREEN PRINTING’S TURN-AROUND TIME CAN BE LONGER.

We at Unity Imaging, are always interested in providing great customer service and want to be transparent that it takes several steps for your artwork to be burned onto a screen for printing.  For rush orders, we can pull together a team to work overtime in order to facilitate a very fast turn-around.  Please note, this means we will need to pass that extra cost on to you.

FOR SMALL QUANTITIES, SILKSCREEN PRINTING IS NOT COST-EFFECTIVE.

On the other hand, your order for 10 T’s maybe for a purpose where cost is not as important compared to a stunning result – which means screen printing is the way to go.

KEEP IN MIND THAT WITH SCREEN PRINTING THERE ARE LIMITATIONS WITH COMPLEX ART AND TIGHTER REGISTRATION.

Some artwork is impossible to achieve with screen printing. Our customer service and art staff can help you modify complex artwork.  However, note for some art that can’t be modified, DTG, heat transfers, or our new DTF transfers might be better for you!

Screen printing is a printing technique using a mesh screen to transfer ink onto a piece of apparel. Some areas are made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil.  A squeegee is moved across the screen to fill the open mesh with ink, and a reverse stroke then causes the screen to be pressed through the screen onto the piece of apparel.  One color is printed at a time, so several screens can be used to produce a multicolored image or design.

We use both types of screen printing at Unity Imaging.  For the average customer, it comes down to cost and feelings. Most t-shirts are printed with plastisol. It is more cost-effective but you will be able to feel the ink on the garment.  Waterbase and Discharge on the other hand are softer to the touch and sometimes you can't feel the print at all. But because water-based and discharge are more difficult to use, printing with these inks will cost more than plastisol.
